The wind in your hair, your water bottle below, a snack in your pocket and your legs burning! Hopping on a bike and getting out on the rugged trail is one of the best ways to see all of the fantastic scenery our area has to offer plus it is great exercise!
There are 5-6 miles to explore at Beavers Bend State Park–a true spot of scenic beauty in Broken Bow, OK. There are three separate loops to choose from and each one gets progressively longer. This is great if you are a novice just getting your feet wet or a biking master looking for a new challenge–there is something for everyone. The trail head can be found trailhead can be found on the west side of the parking lot of Lake View Lodge.
About an hour drive away from Beavers Bend Creative Escapes you can find Bear Creek Trial. This is a special place worth the trip there and back if you have some experience under your belt and are up for some adventure. The Bear Creek Trail is actually 32 miles of rugged ATV and motorcycle trails but mountain bikers are welcome to joint the fun. There are some steep ascents and descents where you may need to hike your bike for certain sections. You can access this trail from the Daisy State Park.
Mountain Biking Tips
For beginners and seasoned cyclists, there are always some great rules of the road to keep in mind for your own safety and comfort. Always bring a hydration pack–not only will it carry the water you will need but it should have plenty of other little pockets to carry the other essentials. For wheel repair should you smack a rock or tree and need a quick fix, bring a spare tube, tire lever, CO2 cartridge, mini-pump, and a SRAM PowerLink in case you break a chain. Pack enough nutrition to keep you fueled and electrolyte pills to prevent fatigue and cramping in your legs. Bring a first aid kit and an ID card should you get into trouble.
