Have you ever admired a work of art and felt that twinge of jealousy as you wished for a minute that you had the skills to create something like that? The Masters at Work Woodturning Competition & Exhibition in Broken Bow, OK is an opportunity for true artists to show their skills to the world and for others to appreciate and admire.

This annual event is put on by the Forest Heritage Center Museum and Oklahoma Forestry Services as an effort to increase awareness of woodturning as an art form. If you have not had a chance to see these artists in action, it really is an awe-inspiring thing to see. The selection process brings turners from Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Missouri, and Tennessee. The qualifying artists will be coming in to participate in four different “turn-offs.” There will also be multiple workshops and two special contests. The wood turning competition will be taking place September 12-13, 2014. As you watch these amazingly creative artists turn out beautiful pieces of art, you may even develop your own favorites as they vie for the title of “Master Wood Turner.”

In addition to the competition, the Forest Heritage Center Museum will have a special exhibit dedicated to showcasing these wooden works of art. The winning pieces from the competition as well as other pieces from the artists respective clubs will be on display from September 12th – October 19th, 2014. It will be a really exciting weekend and an opportunity for the whole family to learn about a new art form.
