Visit Beavers Bend State Park
One of the best outdoor classrooms is Beavers Bend State Park. Found in the foothills of the Kiamichi Mountains and the edge of Ouachita National Forest, it’s home to a diverse ecosystem. See aquatic life by fishing or fly fishing for trout, sunfish, and more. Explore some of the trails, ranging from easy to more challenging hikes.
During your visit, be sure to stop by the park’s nature center if it’s open. The Beavers Bend State Park Nature Center runs guided hikes, arts-and-craft classes, and campfire educational programs.
Explore a Local Museum
There are several museums near your Hochatown cabin that are geared toward nature and wildlife learning. The Beavers Bend Wildlife Museum is home to 11 dioramas that showcase different habitat settings from Oklahoma and beyond. There’s also the Forest Heritage Center Museum, where you can learn about the region’s forestry history.
Get an Up-Close Look at Oklahoma Wildlife
If you have an animal lover in your family, there are plenty of ways to take a walk on the wild side. See everything from zebras to bison at the Beavers Bend Safari Park, which is a drive-through safari home to over 55 species of animals.
Another great option is the Hochatown Rescue Center & Petting Zoo. The petting-zoo style wildlife sanctuary houses reptiles, barnyard animals, and sometimes unusual animals. This Hochatown attraction is a great place to learn about animal care, rehabilitation, and conservation.
