Dogwoods in bloom are a sure sign spring has arrived—and that’s worth celebrating! Idabel, Oklahoma, does just that with the annual Dogwood Days Festival, scheduled for Saturday, April 6, 2019.
Downtown Idabel will be festive and ready for a party that day with live entertainment, craft vendors, children’s games, sidewalk sale, dance contest and country showdown. Visitors will find lots of delicious fair food, plus an Easter “eggstravaganza” barbecue cook-off.
And that’s just for starters. This is one event where the activities just keep coming—RV and Boat Show, 5K run/walk, volleyball tournament, bike show, chainsaw carving demos, scavenger hunt, and a lawn and garden show are also among the many planned activities. No matter what your age or interest, you’ll find lots to enjoy at the fest!

One week later, head over to Beavers Bend State Park for the Beavers Bend Kayak Classic on April 13, 2019. This year’s event will be in conjunction with Heroes on the Water, a wonderful organization that creates alternative therapeutic programs for veterans, active-duty military personnel, first responders and their families.
Kayak fishing is a proven therapy, and volunteer-led chapters hold events throughout the country to support the cause. The experiences help reduce the impact of post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injury while also providing great support and camaraderie.
The Kayak Classic is a fun and competitive outing with the biggest fish winning. Prizes ($5,000 first prize!) will be awarded at the end of the day. Come out to compete, or show up to support the cause—either way you’re in for a great day.
