McCurtain County Relay for Life
August 26, 2017: 6:00 to 10:00 p.m.

Bring your team to your favorite Beavers Bend Creative Escapes cabin during the weekend of August 26-27 to take part in Relay for Life of McCurtain County to benefit the American Cancer Society (ACS)!A purple background with words: Relay for Life.

Relay for life is the world’s largest fundraising event against cancer. As the signature fundraiser for the ACS, the event takes place in more than 5,200 communities in 27 countries. This team fundraising event sees team members taking turns walking around a track or designated path for between 4-24 hours: there is always a member of a team on the circuit to signify that cancer never sleeps.

This year, the event takes place at the Broken Bow City Park. The theme will be “Pirates of the Cure-ibbean,” and you can bet that teams will have fun with the theme! It begins with an opening ceremony, celebrating all those whose lives have been affected with cancer. During the relay, there will be a designated Survivor’s Lap for those who have beaten cancer: anyone in attendance can join. There is also a Caregivers’ Lap for those who have supported someone with cancer: these participants often walk with that person during this designated lap.

The event also lights up during a Luminaria Ceremony, with each luminaria representing a loved one lost to cancer, the support to those affected by cancer, and honors survivors. Finally, a Closing Ceremony is offered for those who have participated.

To sign up for the event, log into the ACS website and fill out the registration form for you and your team. We look forward to seeing you at this event to support cancer research and honor those with cancer, those we’ve lost to cancer, and those who have overcome cancer!
