Wild turkeys are large, with some growing upward of 20 pounds. Oklahoma has three species: Eastern, Rio Grande, and Merriam’s. You’re most likely to seeEastern turkeys around Beavers Bend Creative Escapes, but the Rio Grandes aren’t far away. They will respond to turkey bird calls and are typically hunted with a shotgun. You’ll find these gorgeous birds on most of the hunting land in Oklahoma.

If you prefer hunting with a rifle, there is a two-week window from the end of November through the beginning of December. The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation has a comprehensive list of all hunting seasons in the state.
