Unplugged…to be or not to be

We all need it but seldom do it. I swore to myself that I wasn’t going to work this past weekend but, guess what, I did. I visited Chicago with my husband and had plans of shopping and unwinding. A little retail therapy is always good for the soul. I was going to unplug for 48 hours. I think I lasted about 48 minutes, maybe. Why is it that we can’t just relax. Why must we be checking email, Facebook, twitter, pinterest, and that dreaded “to do” list is always nearby. I was going to write a blog post about how wonderful it was to take a weekend and only take care of myself. Not doing the aforementioned was going to be liberating and I was going to come back refreshed and rejuvenated. Well, I am refreshed and rejuvenated and I did do a little work. I did shop until I dropped and it was mostly for myself and I did check my email and responded to pressing emails. I facebooked and tweeted and even looked at pinterest. I slept better knowing there wasn’t something hanging out there in cyber land that needed my attention. I think, for me, it is a great feeling to try to go boldly where I seldom go but also to
know that it is OK not to be completely unplugged. I’m quite certain a therapist could have told me this and it would have been much less expensive than my retail therapy but it wouldn’t have been near as much fun.
